Purdue University

the backend social media story

Starting my Junior year (my current year) I took the job of Social Media Intern for Purdue University, I help run all of Purdue's main social media accounts and it is amazing! We use Hootsuite to keep track of tweets, and BoilerLink to find upcoming events. A huge part of this is responding and engaging with people that communicate with us, watching the target audience for each platform (ex. Facebook= alumni, Snapchat= Students). I have learned so much in regards to analytics, posting, crisis management and more!

I love working on Snapchat stories because things can be more candid, and they are a quick way to share information or bring views a live experience. Our target audience on these platforms is students as alumni don't tend to like the "story" feel as much.

Taken from the first home football game with our new soon to be legendary coach, Jeff Brohm.

Our Instagram feed audience tends to be young alumni and of course, our current students as well as prospective students. I choose these posts based on the photo quality. The Bechtel Innovation Design Center Post also went with a social platform wide tour I did as a behind the scenes first look at a new building!

Instagram stories are the new hotspot and my personal favorite. I have created Mad-Libs, questions and our new segment, Tuesday Trivia. These posts get on average 15,000 impressions as opposed to the typical picture which gets about 9,000 impressions.

Ahh good 'ole Facebook. Here our target audience is mainly alumni and parents. Students are still mildly engaged but focus more on our campus event posts. Above is a Facebook Live video I did on our school mascot during Homecoming week (Yes, our mascot is a train). Feel free to click the video to see commenting etc.
